Busyness

I hate busyness.?Ǭ† There was once a time where I found importance in how busy my schedule or how many meetings I had in one week.?Ǭ† That time is long gone.?Ǭ† I have been so busy lately.?Ǭ† So busy that I feel like my body is moving ahead of my heart.?Ǭ† I have no time to rest, no time to enjoy the silence, no time to smell the roses, no time to recognize God, no time to laugh without abandon, not time to play Halo2, no time to go sailing, no time at a cafe in my city and watch and learn, no time to rekindle the romance of my marriage, not time to deeply look into my kids eyes and with a glance explain my heart to them, no time to wonder, no time to create, no time to explore my new/old home. I have missed these things.

There is time for agenda, and calendar, and expectation, and meetings, and planning.?Ǭ† Stuff I love, but in moderation.?Ǭ† And right now I feel incapabe of moderating.?Ǭ† Thus they dominate.?Ǭ† They pillage the wonder, the adventure, the awe.?Ǭ† And I become a shell of myself with eyes like a deer in headlights.

I don’t like it, i don’t like it one bit.

Why is busyness like a drug.?Ǭ† Why am I addicted to being busy?

After 143 days……RAIN!

We Phoenicians have been rocking the rain dance for months now. If you haven’t heard, it had been 143 days since we had seen any measurable rain in the “valley of the sun”. We had gone almost five months since we tasted rain – until today. And it has rained all day long. We are loving it – and thankful for it.

Barry Bonds: I don’t get it

My friend Josh and I went to a Giants/Angels Spring Training game (one of the perks of living in Phoenix). The game was pretty packed because Barry Bonds was there. If you have been asleep in recent days (or just don’t care about sports), Barry Bonds is the focus of a upcoming book entitled, Game of Shadows, by Mark Fainaru-Wada and Lance Williams (read an excerpt here) that blows away any thought that maybe, just maybe, Bonds wasn’t on the juice. As Barry came to the plate, I got my “booooooooo” face ready to greet the cheater. I was half-surprised that he even dare show his face in a baseball stadium under the circumstances. As I “booed” at the top of my lungs, I was shocked that my “boo” was drowned out by cheers. Cheers! These fans actually cheered the biggest cheater the game of baseball has ever known! I was speechless. What does this say about the game of baseball? What does this say about the state of humanity that we would rather see a monster homerun by a cheater than the integrity of the “American pastime” restored by not giving Bonds an ounce of additional glory. Call it a career Barry and stop embarrassing the game of baseball any more.

World Baseball Classic

Imagine the World Cup but with an actual game – baseball. Flags were waving, Mexicans were chanting, and Chase Field was rocking for the first Team USA game of the World Baseball Classic. It wasn’t much of a game – USA 2, Mexico 0 with both runs scored but solo homeruns, but it was all about the experience. You jealous?

A Closer Reminder

As I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve posted before, a few of my friends and I will be hosting a screening of the movie ?¢‚Ǩ?ìA Closer Walk?¢‚Ǩ¬ù at 7pm on March 30th at Pollack Tempe Cinemas. The screening will be free of charge and anyone who is interested in seeing this film is invited to attend.

For those of you who may not know, ?¢‚Ǩ?ìA Closer Walk?¢‚Ǩ¬ù is a movie directed by Robert Bilheimer, an academy award nominated documentary film maker. As the films website states, ?¢‚Ǩ?ìA Closer Walk is the first film to depict humankind?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s confrontation with the global AIDS epidemic,?¢‚Ǩ¬ù and it does so in a powerful and heartbreaking manner.

Our hope is that you come and learn about how HIV/AIDS is impacting millions upon millions of people throughout our global community. Also, we hope that this film might help compel us to step into this issue with a heart of service and justice.

Here is a list of my friends/bloggers who are all a part of making this screening happen: Justin Narducci, Zach Lind, David Mulhern, Jamie Mulhern, Brandon Willey.

Click here to view a trailer for the film.

We hope you can come to the screening and be a part of this event with us.

Experiencing Iowa

Kelli and I have the chance to explore somewhere new this weekend. We have friends who live in Oskaloosa, Iowa and we are seeing life through their eyes for the next few days. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s always inspiring to see new parts of the country, especially ones that are so different that your own. Iowa has a lot more history, a lot more pride, and a lot more going on that I expected.

It’s a sad world we live in

I ran across this artice today

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/02/21/funeral.motorcyclists.ap/index.html

I was blown away to see this amazing and heroic group of bikers step up to the plate to protect the famlies of fallen soldiers, but also sickened by what was demanding their protection. It seems Westboro Baptist Church and it’s members have determined that God is using IED’s in Iraq to kill soldiers “because they fought for a country that embraces homosexuals.” Members of this church feel that God wants them to protest at the funerals of fallen soldiers in an attempt to force America to turn it’s ways in it’s acceptance of homosexuality.
One of there members of Westboro Baptist Chruch is quoted in the article as saying, “The scriptures are crystal clear that when God sets out to punish a nation, it is with the sword. An IED is just a broken-up sword.”

As a follower of Jesus, I am saddened and sickened by this utter and total misrepresentation of the God of the Bible. And I am sorry for those familes who have lost a child, a borther, a husband, a father, only to be treated with insensitivity and disrespect by some who claim to do it in the name of God.

Cheney: “It was my fault”

see the article here

Wow, now that was’t that hard was it? Now that we’ve broken the seal of accepting fault, maybe this administation can move on to bigger and better things – like the absence of WMD’s, a false cause for war, and the illegal wire-tapping of suspected terrorists without approval. Guys, we would forgive you I promise.
