World Baseball Classic

Imagine the World Cup but with an actual game – baseball. Flags were waving, Mexicans were chanting, and Chase Field was rocking for the first Team USA game of the World Baseball Classic. It wasn’t much of a game – USA 2, Mexico 0 with both runs scored but solo homeruns, but it was all about the experience. You jealous?

A Closer Reminder

As I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve posted before, a few of my friends and I will be hosting a screening of the movie ?¢‚Ǩ?ìA Closer Walk?¢‚Ǩ¬ù at 7pm on March 30th at Pollack Tempe Cinemas. The screening will be free of charge and anyone who is interested in seeing this film is invited to attend.

For those of you who may not know, ?¢‚Ǩ?ìA Closer Walk?¢‚Ǩ¬ù is a movie directed by Robert Bilheimer, an academy award nominated documentary film maker. As the films website states, ?¢‚Ǩ?ìA Closer Walk is the first film to depict humankind?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s confrontation with the global AIDS epidemic,?¢‚Ǩ¬ù and it does so in a powerful and heartbreaking manner.

Our hope is that you come and learn about how HIV/AIDS is impacting millions upon millions of people throughout our global community. Also, we hope that this film might help compel us to step into this issue with a heart of service and justice.

Here is a list of my friends/bloggers who are all a part of making this screening happen: Justin Narducci, Zach Lind, David Mulhern, Jamie Mulhern, Brandon Willey.

We hope you can come to the screening and be a part of this event with us.

Experiencing Iowa

Kelli and I have the chance to explore somewhere new this weekend. We have friends who live in Oskaloosa, Iowa and we are seeing life through their eyes for the next few days. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s always inspiring to see new parts of the country, especially ones that are so different that your own. Iowa has a lot more history, a lot more pride, and a lot more going on that I expected.

It’s a sad world we live in

I ran across this artice today

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/02/21/funeral.motorcyclists.ap/index.html

I was blown away to see this amazing and heroic group of bikers step up to the plate to protect the famlies of fallen soldiers, but also sickened by what was demanding their protection. It seems Westboro Baptist Church and it’s members have determined that God is using IED’s in Iraq to kill soldiers “because they fought for a country that embraces homosexuals.” Members of this church feel that God wants them to protest at the funerals of fallen soldiers in an attempt to force America to turn it’s ways in it’s acceptance of homosexuality.
One of there members of Westboro Baptist Chruch is quoted in the article as saying, “The scriptures are crystal clear that when God sets out to punish a nation, it is with the sword. An IED is just a broken-up sword.”

As a follower of Jesus, I am saddened and sickened by this utter and total misrepresentation of the God of the Bible. And I am sorry for those familes who have lost a child, a borther, a husband, a father, only to be treated with insensitivity and disrespect by some who claim to do it in the name of God.

Cheney: “It was my fault”

see the article here

Wow, now that was’t that hard was it? Now that we’ve broken the seal of accepting fault, maybe this administation can move on to bigger and better things – like the absence of WMD’s, a false cause for war, and the illegal wire-tapping of suspected terrorists without approval. Guys, we would forgive you I promise.

How does your theology rate?

I took this test today that I heard about from a friend’s blog.See where you score by following the link at the bottom of the results.

You scored as Emergent/Postmodern. You are Emergent/Postmodern in your theology. You feel alienated from older forms of church, you don’t think they connect to modern culture very well. No one knows the whole truth about God, and we have much to learn from each other, and so learning takes place in dialogue. Evangelism should take place in relationships rather than through crusades and altar-calls. People are interested in spirituality and want to ask questions, so the church should help them to do this.

In Mexico

I am writing this from beautiful (at in my opinion) Puerto Penasco, Mexico. It’s about a 3.5 hour drive from Phoenix and the closest beach to AZ. My dad has a boat down here and needed to do some work on it. So I tagged along and we have been relaxing, fishing, catching up, and eating good mexican food for the past two days. Good stuff!
